CHAPTER 2

The carriage is now bumping across the sinuous path of the rocky dirt road. The beasts neigh and clap their hooves.

"Too treacherous it is, to talk about Dagmar-Legion here..."

He shudders. "But it is now late. And I will tell you of it when we descend upon Meriadon of Mires and hail the City of Merlinbrad"

"Merlinbrad? I have passed here before. It is a fair city."

"And it is the city next to be assailed. Too thin...simply too thin, I say. But it is how it must be, I think."

"You think the people of the country are more deserving of death, paladin? More deserving than-"

"Cur, do not insult me that way! You will have no word."

The road slashes through the city and it obeys. The white road remains white, yes, like the edge of a blade.

"Those that already know, they have already fled. You understand? If they are to die here then they die either with pride or dismay"

It is night and you have settled near the countryside beyond the city. The fire rages:

"If I am to speak of Dagmar-Legion, then the earth will aid me and judge me."

"Speak, I am listening"

"The man, was no man. No mother would... And look at my eyes when I say, that a demon such as he does not live because the earth allows. No, the demon made pacts and waged war with every power that exists in this land, yes, he loved only himself. Even in death...It was his death that led us here. Perhaps..."
