CHAPTER 2
The bulbuous gate creaks; you are met with a circular room with a bifurcated opening at the opposite end.
The monks run past you and take position, arming their crossbows; suddenly, the earth shakes!
"They have breached the main gate!" says one of them
"No matter! We will stop them here!"
"For Malung, for King's Lands!"
A cloud of smoke and fire bellows beneath, and in the hallways to the side. "Now!" says Perispoles. And at his command it seemed like a horde of corpses, bloated with arrows, suddenly appeared from all sides you could see; and they fell and tripped upon themselves, and they burned into charred flesh and pikes and boiling metal and muscle.
"Again!" he shouted; and they fell dead, upon the darkness below.
"Damn!"
You hear screams below. The two monks back away from the gate. "Charge in, man! We're out of arrows!"
You lift your axe and split a man halfways; another one cuts your chest. You retaliate, your chest bleeds a deep score. Now two more of them charge in to the gate.
A pike sticks your chest; a head rolls down the abyss; a man falls flat near the gate. You break the pike by the head and you pummel a man in the eye and chop at its breastbone.
"We're closing this down!"
The gate shuts. You hear the pummelling of fists and steel as you help close it.
